Avanti road bike stolen from UW 5 April 2008

I'm emailing you in the off-chance that someone comes across my bike
(someone may try to sell it locally) which was stolen from the UWA
(Nedlands) bike racks outside the Guild building yesterday (Sunday 6th
April) between 1.30 and 4pm. I was attending the Sun Fair at UWA. The
security chain was cut with a bolt cutter. They also stole two bike
helmets, a blue one and a white Lamar helmet.

It's quite a distinctive bike - an Avanti "Kona Pro" lightweight racing
bike (45"), black with silver frame. the drop handlebars are taped with
red and black tape and the wheels have red and black tyres. The serial
number is J000390051. It's a year 2000 model (I bought it secondhand in
December 2001 from Fleet cycles in Fremantle).

I can be contacted on 0447 322 962 (mb).

I've notified the Subiaco police and the UWA security. If you have any
other ideas of who else I could contact, would appreciate them.

By the way, this has got me thinking about bike security and how it
needs upgrading to that of the car - an alarm or imobiliser of some
description, or is there something on the market already?

Appreciate it if this could be circulated to as many people as possible.

Immobiliser: I sometimes use a little padlock and hang it on my chain. Stops people pedalling away.

Apart from that, good main locks and good luck finding yer bike - I'll keep my eyes peeled!
